Welcome to Secondary

All-through schooling from 4-16 means that the sure start that our pupils have in their excellent primary education (Years R-6) can be truly built upon in Years 7-11 to ensure the highest possible standards of teaching and learning and superb GCSE results. This ‘one journey’ approach is one of the key features of our federation. From September 2017 our Year 8 cohort will move into Year 9 and from then on we will grow year on year towards a full complement of pupils in 2019. We are building on the fantastic ethos and great dedication of our existing Key Stage 3 provision with a team of highly-skilled and dedicated professionals which grows in number each year.

We pride ourselves on our traditional values which, in the secondary phase, include:

  • impeccable behaviour every day
  • very high academic expectations
  • courteous, kind, warm and respectful relationships – sometimes described as a ‘family feel’
  • a traditional curriculum ensuring all pupils have every door to success open

Our curriculum is broad and balanced but with a strong focus on the subjects which are valued by every sixth-form, employer and university in the country. Pupils develop mastery of essential higher level knowledge and skills in English, mathematics and the sciences, languages (French and German will be offered) and history / geography. We also provide high-quality learning opportunities in art and design, technology, sports, drama and music. Our range of subjects (in which we have tried and tested success) is designed to ensure a bright future for every pupil.

Our extensive and growing facilities include specialist art and pottery facilities, modern science labs, a large library, computer suites and bright, modern classrooms. Over the next 12 months we will also be working with the local authority to provide a brand-new sports hall (and, we hope, a 3G pitch with Bedfordshire FA), a drama studio, additional science labs, a number of new classrooms and a new food technology area. The school will also be the site of the new Bedford Music Hub with brand new music teaching facilities and practice rooms. Our grounds are extensive and very attractive, a feature being the ‘outdoor classroom’ where pupils engage in forestry, horticulture, growing their own vegetables and outdoor cooking! Our extra-curricular programme is extensive and participation rates are high.

We look forward to working closely with each and every one of our families to ensure success and happiness for each one of our pupils. Visits are welcome – come and see for yourselves!
