York Street 'School Street' Update from Lucy Bywater, Councillor for Castle & Newnham ward, Bedford The York Street School Street scheme, promoting safer walking and cycling to school, is nearing the end of its second successful year. We ask families to supervise children carefully within the School Street. While we encourage active travel, be aware that resident, blue badge, or emergency vehicles may be present. Volunteer marshals are not crossing patrol staff, so please explain this to your children. It's Volunteer Week, and with two regular volunteers away, we urgently need more help! Can you or a grandparent spare 30 minutes once a week (8:30-9:00 AM or 3:15-3:45 PM)? The team is friendly, and the task is easy. Email Cllr Lucy Bywater at Lucy.Bywater@bedford.gov.uk for details. You may see some days without marshals, signs, or cones, but the Traffic Regulation Order remains in effect. Vehicles (other than those mentioned above) are still not permitted during these times.
